Sunday, 15 June 2025 – Sunday, 22 June 2025: Academic week (JGU Mainz)
Sunday, 22 June 2025 – Thursday, 26 June 2025: Project work (Ahrtal)
Thursday, 26 June 2025 – Sunday, 29 June 2025: Scot-t fest (JGU Mainz)

This year´s GO project includes a week of interdisciplinary academic talks about the connection between “Wasser” (water) and climate change at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and a second week of collaborative project work with students from schools in Ahrweiler. The project will end with the Scot-t Fest during which you will have the opportunity to showcase your individual group projects.

The project´s main language will be English, so all students can apply, whether they know German nor not. However, you will have many chances to speak and thus practice your German if you want.

For your participation you can earn 3 ECTS and a Global Citizenship Award!

For international students, the participation fee is expected to be about 300 € at most. We will keep the fee as low as possible, but the exact amount is ultimately determined by the number of participants and the resulting costs during our project. The fee covers the language course, lectures at JGU, a cultural programme in Mainz and Ahrweiler, as well as accommodation (starting Sunday, 15 June) and travel during the two weeks of the project.

Please note that travel to and from Mainz as well as accommodation in Mainz during the optional language course is not covered by the project fee and must be organised and paid for by the participants themselves!

Of course, we will support you in finding affordable accommodation.

The payment of the project fee will be split into two instalments. The first payment of 100 € is expected in advance to confirm your participation, while the second one will be due after the completion of the project (we will also ask you to get the “Deutschlandticket” for the month of June for unlimited travel with public transport – the cost for this is already calculated into the expected fee).

For JGU students, the participation fee is 45 € and includes lectures at JGU, a cultural programme in Mainz and Ahrweiler, as well travel during the two weeks of the project and accommodation in Ahrweiler.

We highly recommend checking with your university’s international office for possible funding for your participation in the summer school. For participants from the EU (Ireland and Latvia) this will likely be an Erasmus+ funding (Blended Intensive Programme). In the UK, you might be able to get funded via the Turing Scheme. Please note that the Turing Scheme only funds mobilities longer than four weeks. That means that a participation in the language course is required to receive Turing funding.
