The JGU Scotland HUB supports all things Scottish in Rheinland-Pfalz and beyond, from whisky tasting to ceilidhs, from book or song festivals to readings or political debates.
Among many Scotland related events at the JGU Scotland HUB throughout the year, we have three annual highlights: Burns night in January, “Scot-t Fest” at the end of June and St. Andrew’s day in November.
Our Burns Night in January is one of the largest gatherings in Germany in honour of Scotland’s National poet Robert Burns. For more than 10 years, the traditional Burns supper with haggis, music, dancing, and poetry has taken place at Mainz university.
Burns Night is a student-led initiative and we excited to host the annual Burns Supper in cooperation with Campus Mainz e.V. here on JGU Campus. Be on the lookout for upcoming events!

As part of the Kultursommer Rheinland-Pfalz we celebrate our Scot-t Fest at the end of June. Named after Scotland (Scot-) and Sir Walter Scott (Scott-), the Scot-t Fest celebrates the cultural, educational, and research partnership between Rheinland-Pfalz and Scotland. The event features a diverse program including literature, music, and a traditional ceilidh. Open to all ages and backgrounds — no kilt required.
For Scotland’s national day, we are hosting a St. Andrew’s Day lecture in November as a public engagement event.
Join us in our celebration of Scotland’s national day and patron saint!
We are delighted to share the recording of our St. Andrew’s Day Celebration at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz
